CRP is a positive acute phase reactant present in blood that is expressed in the liver. It is used as a biomarker for cardiovascular and inflammatory disease. It is a pentameric protein comprised of five identical ~ 25 kDa polypeptide chains. During the acute phase reaction CRP levels increase up to 2-fold in rats.
